Getting to the museum
The Musée maritime du Québec is located in L’Islet (L’Islet-sur-Mer sector), in Chaudière-Appalaches. Just an hour from the bridges on Québec City’s south shore, you can get there via Autoroute Jean-Lesage (Highway 20) or the Route des Navigateurs (Route 132 East).
Getting to the museum by bike
Whether you’re coming from Montmagny, Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, or elsewhere, you can cycle to the museum along Route 132. Once there, you can lock your bike securely on the racks installed at the museum entrance.
Charging your electric car
Three level 2 charging stations for electric vehicles are available on the east side of the building — perfect for taking your time to explore the Museum!
Visit duration
You can explore the Museum at your own pace. Some visitors spend a full day, others just a few hours. You’re free to roam the site, with the exception of the Ship Model Reserve, which can only be visited with a guide. From June to August, you’ll also need to book a guided tour to board the Bras d’Or. Ask about it and reserve your spot at the front desk as soon as you arrive!
On-site parking
Parking at the Musée maritime du Québec is free at all times. You’ll find spaces in front of the museum, on the east side of the building, and across the street facing the museum.
The Museum café
Want to grab a bite on-site? Stop by the Museum café for a break between exhibitions. You’ll find a selection of snacks, sweet treats, and coffee roasted by Café Bonté Divine of Saint-Jean-Port-Joli. And even if you’re not visiting the exhibitions, you’re welcome to stop in for a coffee break with a view of the river and the ships!
A picnic at the museum
Picnicking at the museum is also welcome. In season, set up in the riverfront park with your picnic basket to fully enjoy the fresh air and the splendid view of the St. Lawrence and the Charlevoix mountains. Accessibility for people with reduced mobility
The Musée maritime du Québec is Kéroul-certified. This means the institution offers universal access to the main building and exhibitions. Access to the ship museums remains more limited, however, due to the numerous stairs along the visit route.
Coat check and lockers
A self-service coat check is available near the main entrance of the building. Secure lockers are also available free of charge for visitors. Ask at the front desk for details!
Photos and videos
Photos and videos are permitted at the Musée maritime du Québec. We do ask, however, that you refrain from using flash or a tripod — this helps preserve the artifacts for future generations.
