{"id":1662,"date":"2021-01-12T10:34:06","date_gmt":"2021-01-12T15:34:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mmq.qc.ca\/?page_id=1662"},"modified":"2021-03-29T10:45:53","modified_gmt":"2021-03-29T14:45:53","slug":"lighthouse-corporation","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.mmq.qc.ca\/en\/tribute\/lighthouse-corporation\/","title":{"rendered":"Corporation des gestionnaires de phares de l\u2019estuaire et du golfe du Saint-Laurent (2015)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div style=\"height:45px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Contribution to maritime life in Quebec<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2015, the Mus\u00e9e maritime du Qu\u00e9bec (MMQ) paid tribute to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.routedesphares.qc.ca\/fr\/corporation.html\">Corporation des gestionnaires de phares de l\u2019estuaire et du golfe Saint-Laurent.<\/a> This non-profit organization was founded in 2001 to ensure the conservation and enhancement of the lighthouses of the Estuary and Golf of St. Lawrence. It also seeks to heighten the awareness of various segments of the population about the issues and problems affecting those symbols from a bygone era. The MMQ wishes to acknowledge the work and dedication of the Corporation and its members. Owing to their sustained efforts and vision, the preservation of the lighthouses is ensured and there is growing interest in such maritime hallmarks.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Museum salutes the enthusiasm and rigour of the volunteers and administrators of the Corporation\u2019s member lighthouses. Together, they succeeded in structuring fundraising, developing commercial agreements, ensuring the integrity of the lighthouses and enhancing their visibility.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:45px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The origin of the Corporation <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The central idea behind the foundation of the Corporation was to pool all the efforts of several lighthouse managers to market a lighthouse trail. The concept could easily be exported and promote Quebec\u2019s maritime heritage. The fast development of the Corporation from its onset and the vitality of the organization today are the results of the sustained efforts made by a number of enthusiastic volunteers. The contributions of Serge Guay and Annemarie Bourassa (from the Mus\u00e9e de la mer \u2013known today as the Site historique maritime de la Pointe-au-P\u00e8re) combined with input from the Corporation\u2019s executive members in 2015 \u2013 Peter Noreau, Jean Cloutier and Arlette Fortin \u2013 were highlighted when the Museum paid tribute to the Corporation.&nbsp; <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Contribution to maritime life in Quebec In 2015, the Mus\u00e9e maritime du Qu\u00e9bec (MMQ) paid tribute to the Corporation des gestionnaires de phares de l\u2019estuaire et du golfe Saint-Laurent.
