In 2014, the Mus\u00e9e maritime du Qu\u00e9bec paid posthumous tribute to Captain Marc Thibault, who died tragically in 2013 while in service, at the age of 48. Thibault first showed his keen interest in the St. Lawrence and navigation when he joined the Royal Canadian Navy cadet corps 260 J.E. Bernier in L\u2019Islet. From ages 14 to 19, he stood out as an exceptional cadet. Between 1984 and 1987, he completed his training as a navigation officer in nautical sciences in Nova Scotia. Once he left school, he worked for the Canadian Coast Guard for 29 years. In 1995, he obtained his master home trade certificate and, 15 years later, his master mariner certificate. Thibault was the commanding officer of seven Coast Guard vessels and sailed to the Arctic 19 times during his brilliant career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Born in L\u2019Islet in 1965, Marc Thibault developed a strong interest in the St. Lawrence and navigation at a quite young age. Later as a seasoned captain, he wished to become a mentor, because he felt that his love for people and his concern for their safety onboard were important elements to convey. He took great pride in his expeditions aboard the Amundsen<\/em> icebreaker.
