along the hiking trails of the Hydro-Québec Park that provide a
magnificent view of the St. Lawrence. The proximity of this majestic waterway
will not leave you unmoved. Read the interpretation boards and discover
the fauna and flora of the river. In addition, the mysterious phenomena
of the tides are explained in great detail. Let yourself be told about
the incredible legend of the Rocher Panet. Admire the diversified landscape
of the archipelago of the Ïles de Montmagny, emerging like isolated
points of land. This panorama extends to the Laurentians on the North
Shore. An enchanting décor where culture, maritime history and
nature come together.
Bras d'Or 400 hydrofoil
Based
on Alexander Graham Bell’s original idea, this vessel has an intriguing
silhouette and gives rise to many questions. . . This warship, primarily
designed to detect enemy submarines during the Cold War, was a project
at the vanguard initiated by National Defence Canada. This water vehicle
alone combines a semi-submarine semi-ship profile, is equipped with aviation
technology through its DC-8 motors, and is designed to skim over the water’s
surface.
Experiencing this hydrofoil is a 30-minute long visit that plunges you
into a special-mission military atmosphere. Seeing the Bras d’Or
400 is like boarding an aircraft, finding yourself in a submarine and
then taking a deep breath of fresh air at sea from the rear deck of a
ship.
Ernest Lapointe Icebreaker
Discover life aboard the icebreaker Ernest Lapointe, a Canadian Coast
Guard vessel in service between Montreal and Trois-Rivières from
1940 to 1978.
In 1980, she began a second career at the Musée maritime du Québec.
Her presence not only furthers understanding of the functioning of this
type of ship but equally of steam-engine navigation. From the engine room
to the Officer’s mess via the wheelhouse, its recreated cabins will
take you on a trip into the past. The gyrocompass or the gooseneck ventilator
doesn’t ring a bell? Interpretative boards will answer all your
questions.
Whether you are a die-hard enthusiast or a navigation neophyte, a visit
will help you understand the importance of the St. Lawrence Seaway in
the summer as well as the winter.
