Field trips to cultural venues

Would you like ideas for exciting school field trips with your class? Discover the riverside classes of the Musée maritime du Québec. An array of cultural activities led by trained guides are available to school groups of every age! 

Talk about various areas of training in the seafaring world with your preschool, elementary or secondary students. Involve them in plastic arts with our creative workshops. Explore science and technology during science workshops. Immerse them in social studies with outdoor expeditions and exhibition tours.

Exhibitions

Explore the technology and history of the Québécois society through engaging exhibitions! Learn about Quebeckers’ connections to the St. Lawrence River by observing maritime artefacts. Discover the maritime past of Quebec with over 200 scale model ships. Rouse your students’ interest with a guided tour!

Ship Museum Tours

Step aboard ships that served in the Canadian Coast Guard and the Royal Canadian Navy! Discuss energy conversion in the engine room. Compare past and present ways of life by visiting the captain’s cabin. Talk about life on board with a unique audio immersion experience. A tour of the ship museums is sure to pique your student’s curiosity!

Science Activities

During our nautical-themed workshops, your students will study science from a mariner’s standpoint. To find their way at sea, mariners use electron magnetism and technology. To understand the buoyancy of vessels, it is important to integrate knowledge about density. Learning how to use simple machines is the key to better navigation.

Creative Workshops

Get your school group involved in plastic arts at the Museum! Your students will explore science and history, awakening their artistic essence with a project suited to their school level. Make a cardboard rowboat using the techniques of longboat builders. Discover the architecture of a ship by building a driftwood watercraft. Learn to tie sailing knots by weaving a neat bracelet.

School Group Expeditions

In winter or spring, set out on an adventure with your elementary or secondary students! On ice or in the mud, go out for a walk along the foreshore of the St. Lawrence River with your students. Using an active and sensory approach, discuss knowledge about Earth and space as well as diversity in society and the living universe.

Story

For a holiday season activity, attend the Museum’s Christmastime story! With your first or second cycle elementary students, discover various aspects of the seafaring and shorefront world in the winter. Address knowledge specific to geography, history and citizenship education during a fun-filled, captivating activity!

Would you like to go on a school field trip in a unique cultural venue? The Musée maritime du Québec offers educational activities perfectly suited for school groups!

Financial support for field trips to cultural venues

In keeping with Québec’s cultural policy Partout, la culture and its related action plan, financial support is provided to school boards and private educational institutions to allow all young people, from preschool through secondary school, to take part in two free school field trips to cultural venues per year.

Services included:

  • Indoor meal facilities for up to 50 people (upon reservation) 
  • Picnic tables and grassy areas in the Riverfront Park
  • Cloakroom
  • Bus parking area

  • Facilities for presentations, classes or screenings (upon reservation)
